Tahoe Resources’ Former Security Manager Turns Fugitive

(Guatemala City/Ottawa/Tatamagouche) On Monday, plaintiffs in the criminal case against Tahoe Resources’ former security manager, Alberto Rotondo, were informed that he had escaped police custody. Rotondo is accused of having ordered private security guards to attack peaceful protestors outside the Escobal mine in southeastern Guatemala on April 27, 2013, wounding seven men.

International Organizations Denounce Violence Against Indigenous Community in Mexico; Community Seeks Answers from Teck Resources

(Ottawa) Seventeen international Indigenous, solidarity and human rights organizations are calling for an investigation into Mexican state involvement in violence against the Nahua Indigenous community of Zacualpan, Colima, which has been defending its territory and water sources from proposed mining activities.

Canadian mining major Teck Resources is also being asked to explain its apparent involvement.

The Quebec Meilleure Mine coalition is concerned with the recent 3 million dollar loan from Third Eye Capital to the uranium promotion company Strateco to finance its 190 million dollar lawsuit against the Quebec government.
