With Prime Minister Mark Carney announcing the elimination of Canada’s human rights ombud, that vacancy is on full display as advocates caution it could lead to added violations if the country’s trade deal with Ecuador is implemented.
Speaking to reporters on June 11, Carney (Nepean, Ont.) announced that the Canadian Ombudsperson for Responsible Enterprise (CORE) post had been “eliminated,” remarking that the decision was made “a few months ago.”
