Manawan – May 13, 2026. As the Nouveau Monde Graphite (NMG) annual general meeting of shareholders opens today, Mr. Émilien Dubé, chief of an ancestral family territory and member of the Atikamekw Nation of Manawan, announces his firm opposition to the Matawinie mining project. Mr. Dubé’s ancestral family territory is located close to the Matawinie mine site of NMG.

Concerned about the mining impact on his territory and his family’s ancestral rights, family territory Chief Émilien Dubé emphasizes that hunting and fishing are fundamental pillars of Indigenous peoples’ culture and survival, based on respect, spirituality, and sustainable land management. NMG’s mining and extraction operations are, therefore, incompatible with a vision of protecting the territory for future generations.
