Subject: Comments on the impact assessment of Troilus Gold's Troilus gold and copper mining project in Eeyou Istchee in Northern Quebec

These comments are submitted as part of the assessment of Troilus Gold’s Troilus gold and copper mining project in Eeyou Istchee in Northern Quebec before the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada, following consultation with our members and partners interested in assessing the project’s impacts. More specifically, we ask the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada not to authorize the Troilus mining project as submitted.

We reiterate that in its current form, we do not support the development of the Troilus mining project under review due to methodological biases in its analysis of cumulative impacts in the region, its plan to destroy Bibou Creek, the lack of information regarding the transport of concentrate to the Horne Foundry in Rouyn-Noranda, and the absence of a commitment to remediate local mining liabilities. We consider that the proponent has not demonstrated that there is no viable alternative to the destruction of Bibou Creek to carry out its project. For each of these issues, we have raised the need for additional information and studies to adequately inform the public about the impacts of the mining project under review.
