MiningWatch Canada Personnel
The MiningWatch Canada national office staff consists of a Canada Program Coordinator, a Communications and Outreach Coordinator, a Research Coordinator, a Latin America Program Coordinator, and a Resource Development and Administrative Coordinator.
Canada Program Coordinator Ramsey Hart focusses on Canadian, provincial and territorial mining policy development, review of individual mining projects through environmental assessments, and provides technical and logistical support to communities affected by mineral exploraiton and mining projects. He also conducts research about domestic mining issues, in particualr waste management, the impacts of mining on aquatic ecosystems and mining and Indigenous rights.
Research Co-ordinator Catherine Coumans works with our expert advisory committee, staff, and Directors to ensure the accuracy, focus and timeliness of our information resources and research efforts. Tasks include monitoring government and industry initiatives affecting MiningWatch interests, supporting participation of MiningWatch members and associates in consultations and negotiations, representing MiningWatch perspectives in meetings, presentations and negotiations as required, and preparing and/or co-ordinating written briefs and submissions as required. Her focus area is the Asia-Pacific region.
Latin America Program Coordinator Jennifer Moore works on the Guatemala/Goldcorp campaign and on supporting communities, organizations, and networks struggling with mining issues throughout Latin America. Jennifer is a freelance print and broadcast journalist with twelve years experience in social justice journalism, a third of which she has gained while living and working in Ecuador. While in South America from 2006 to 2010, she researched and wrote popular and academic articles about the struggles of indigenous and non-indigenous communities affected by Canadian-financed mining companies.
Communications and Outreach Coordinator Jamie Kneen works with our staff and Directors to provide strategic support and advice for campaign, consultation and negotiation efforts. He also assists in the design of communications plans and tools, and plans and implements information management systems. He maintains up-to-date research files on regulatory, technical and strategic issues related to mining and the environment. He also supports the participation of MiningWatch members and associates in consultations and negotiations, representing MiningWatch perspectives in meetings, presentations and negotiations as required, preparing and/or co-ordinating written briefs and submissions as required. His focus areas are environmental assessment and land use planning, uranium, and the African and Latin American regional programs.
Resource Development and Administrative Coordinator Susan Murdock works with the Board and staff to ensure efficient and effective administrative and financial management of the organization. Tasks include communications with individual and institutional donors and supporters, office management and work with Board fundraising and personnel committees.
